The James Jones Society and Norman Mailer Society will sponsor a joint conference at the University of Texas, Austin, November 10-12, 2011.  The event is co-sponsored by the Harry Ransom Center and will open with a wine and cheese reception, Wednesday, November 9^th from 7-9 p.m.  The theme for the conference is “MAILER AND JONES:  FRIENDS AND WRITERS.”  Papers, readings from their works, and roundtable discussions are invited.  We will attempt to make all panels, presentations address both men and their work.

Plenary events scheduled (or proposed) so far include: 

Opening night wine/cheese reception, hosted by the Ransom Center with a welcome and words from Center archivist on Jones/Mailer collections.

Thursday night showing of re-mastered THE THIN RED LINE

Friday night public reading by Larry Heinemann and Tim O’Brien

Saturday ending luncheon w/Kaylie Jones and Michael Mailer as speakers

Plenary sessions—Mailer/Jones Societies individual board and membership meetings; Mike Lennon and Michael Moore talk about writing Mailer/Jones biographies; Wilkes U Readers theater; Readings from Jones/Mailer papers; Jones Fellowship readings, and much much more…just submit your own proposals.

David Light (Mailer Society treasurer) and Warren Mason (Jones Society treasurer) are finalizing  hotel arrangements.  These rooms will be limited and you should all  book ASAP to hold a place!
